Tjalfi On Guard Fall 1999.JPG (15422 bytes)

GENERAL: A typical Spitz type of dog of under middle size, lightly and squarely built with a short, compact body, fairly smooth-lying coat, erect, pointed ears, tail carried curled over the back, and with an intelligent, courageous, energetic character. They are well balanced and capable of arduous work.

BREED ORIGIN: Norway

HEAD: The size is in proportion to the body, wedge-shaped, lean, not too heavy. The skull is almost flat, the stop is well defined but is not too pronounced. Muzzle - is rather short, tapering evenly towards the nose, which is black, the bridge is straight, lips tightly closed. Eyes - colour as dark as possible, harmonizing with the colour of the coat. Ears - are pointed, with the size and shape in harmony with the head, height of the ears is somewhat greater than the width at the base, carried strongly erect, very mobile. Mouth - scissors bite, full dentition.

NECK: Is lean, comparatively short with good carriage, moderate arch.

FORELEGS: Moderately angulated at the shoulder, harmonizing with type, well set elbows, legs are straight, lean and with good bone, not coarse although this is preferred to too fine. Feet are oval in shape and compact with toes closed.

BODY: Deep chest with well sprung ribs, strong, straight back and loins. Arch of coupling should harmonize with type. Length of body equal to height at the withers.

HINDQUARTERS: Moderate angulation, powerful, good muscle and bone, hocks parallel, compact oval feet, toes closed.

TAIL: Well furred, thick, set high, tightly curled, and carried over the center of the back.

COAT: Thick, rich and hard but rather smooth-lying, double type.

COLOURS: Wheaten (Biscuit) - ranging from light cream to yellowish red, with or without dark tipped hairs, mask permitted but should otherwise be self coloured.

Black - preferably self coloured but white blaze and white markings on chest, narrow ring on neck and white on legs are permissible. The white markings should not however disturb the overall impression.

SIZE: Height at withers:

Males: 43 - 47 cm (17 -18.5 inches)

Females: 41 - 45 cm (16 - 17.5 inches)

WEIGHT: Males: 14 - 18 kgs (30 - 40lbs)

Females: 12 - 16 kgs (26.5 - 35 lbs)
