General Roving Information:

The Fibre Works Gallery stocks a variety of rovings in Alpaca, Shetland and blended fibres, in a number of colours.   Angelhair and Cygnet are superb for handspinning.  Lux draws and spins up nicely and is great for felting as is the Outdoor quality.  The Outdoor and Utility can also be used for rugs as well as quilt batting and stuffing.  One of our favorite items is felted boot insoles made from the Utility rovings.

Unless otherwise noted, rovings have been gently washed and processed with no harsh chemicals.  As a result, we sometimes do have bits of vegetation remaining in the rovings.  These can generally be flicked out while spinning or hooking and also usually wash out during felting.  "Handspinner's roving" is a thin roving that is very easy to draw and spin without additional preparation.

We do use micron measurement of fibre in our flock and herd but do not sample every animal every year.  Where possible, we provide an approximate micron classification based on the most recent data that we have but we believe that the "hand" of a fibre is a better overall measure of quality than is micron.

You can obtain a sample of any of our yarns or rovings by sending us a request along with a self addressed envelope and a cheque or money order for $2.50.
